As the leaves start to turn and the air gets cooler, it’s time to embrace the bounty of autumn produce. Visit your local fruit and veg shop this week to explore the variety of seasonal fruit and veg they have sourced fresh from the Brisbane Markets and experience the difference farm fresh produce can make to your meals!

Keep an eye out for veggies from the Lockyer Valley when you visit your local fruit and veg shop this week. The Lockyer Valley’s winter growing season is just kicking off, so expect delicious and quality winter vegetables to hit shelves over the coming weeks.

Our pick of the week is Lemons, coming to the Brisbane Markets in abundance from North Queensland. Lemons are an excellent way to dodge illness this week, giving you a boost in vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants. Add some to any meal this week for a hint of acidity and zest, or try our Sweet Lemon Tiramisu to satisfy your sweet tooth.

For a rarer pick, try new season Persimmons from North Queensland. Persimmons can range in colour from a pale orange to deep, red-orange, and should be eaten when their flesh is soft, sweet and jelly-like. They make for delightfully sweet treat on their own, or you could try paring them with Lemons for our Buttermilk Lemon Pudding Cake with Persimmon Sauce.

Rockmelons from New South Wales have increased in supply this week, with juicy flesh perfect for an afternoon snack. Rockmelon can aid in digestion and promote healthy skin and hair. If you’re after the perfect fruit salad, pair them with Watermelons from South Australia for our Watermelon, Rockmelon and Goat’s Cheese Salad!

All varieties of Grapes from Victoria are still easily found at your local fruit and veg shop this week. These Grape Kebabs make a simple yet impressive addition to a platter and are sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Shepherd Avocados, known for their smooth and creamy texture, and are in steady supply from Bundaberg. Perfect for guacamole or as a spread on toast, Avocados can aid in digestion and heart health and are a good source of vitamin K and folate. They are a great addition to salads, sandwiches, or
smoothies.

Keep an eye out for Northern Queensland Grapefruit and add it to your trolley for a sweet and tangy burst of flavour! Grapefruits have many health benefits for your heart, skin and blood pressure, with the greatest source of vitamins being in the juices and pulps. For an easy and refreshing dinner, try our Salad of Seared Tuna with Seedless Watermelon, Grapefruit and Avocado.

Cauliflower from Stanthorpe and the Lockyer Valley is high in fibre, vitamins C and K, and various
antioxidants, and is also a low-calorie option that can be enjoyed roasted, mashed, or in soups and stews. Make Cauliflower the star of the show this week with these delicious Garlicky Cauliflower Steaks!

If you’re looking to add more nutrients to your Taco night, add Eggplant from South Australia to your shopping list this week. These Eggplant and Chicken Tacos are full of flavour and are a great way to add this delicious veg to your meals.

While wet weather has affected the supply of leafy greens, Broccoli from Lockyer Valley is picking up in supply. Full of vitamin C, Calcium and Iron, it’s a great option for your weeknight meals. Add some green to your comfort food with this Broccoli Hashbrown Bake!
