Brisbane Produce Report – 11 March

Summer may be gone, but there’s still so much to love! This week at your local fruit and veg shop you can expect to find some great seasonal produce to tantalise your tastebuds! As we continue to see losses from rains in Queensland and New South Wales, there will be some shortages experienced, however your local fruit and veg shop will still have an excellent range of fresh produce every day!

Our pick of the week this week is locally grown Papaya from North QueenslandPapaya is a unique fruit, with a distinct smell and flavour. It can be used in a number of ways, from eating fresh, roasting, adding to cakes or sweets, as well as several uses in savoury cooking, such as salads, and as an accompaniment to fish or chicken. Try our Som Tam recipe, a vibrant papaya, mango and bean salad with a spicy kick!

In the mood for something out of the ordinary this week? Step outside your comfort zone in this week’s trip to your fruit and veg shop and try something new, like delicious Custard Apples from Cairnswhich are beautiful and sweet, a perfect snack. Or go bold and pick up some Dragon fruit from South East Queenslandwhich comes in several varieties including red flesh and white flesh, with a striking colour and shape, Dragon fruit is a great pick this week!

Pomegranates out of Victoria are in season and are the perfect addition to salads as a great little pop of sweet, tangy flavour! They are also great in drinks, like our Pomegranate Prosecco Pop!  Great quality citrus are back on shelves at your local fruit and veg shop, including Lemons and Limes from the Central Burnett region, perfect as a pop of flavour in you mid-season cooking! If you’re feeling like baking something sweet, you could whip up these Lemon Bars this weekend!

New season Apples from Victoria are in abundance, with gala, fuji and red delicious coming through with new season produce. New season Pears from Victoria are also in excellent supply, with both Williams and Packham pears making an appearance! Victorian grown Peaches and Plums are in excellent supply, and taste delicious! There is also a wide variety of Grapes from Robinvale on offer, so grab some this week!

Plenty of excellent vegetables are in store this week, including locally grown Pumpkin from Gatton and Aratulaperfect for a cosy autumn soup or roast! Why not get the family baking this weekend and make these Pumpkin Lemonade Scones, we promise you’ll love them!

Green vegetables from Victoria such as Kale, Baby Broccoli and Beans are all in great supply, and make the perfect addition to your weekly meals for a healthy, nutritious and tasty boost! Corn from Victoria is also great this week, why not make a classic Corn on the Cob with dinner!
