Brisbane Produce Report – 28 October

  October 27, 2022  adonaldson

As November rolls in, Spring is almost over already! Rains around the country have been causing some issues for growers and may impact what’s available in the coming weeks and months, but nevertheless, fresh produce will still be available at your local fruit and veg shop with produce from non-impacted crops and fresh seasonal produce. There will always be value to be had at your local fruit and veg shop!

Our pick of the week is Cucumber. Cucumbers are in good supply from Bundaberg and Toowoomba and are a delicious, crunchy addition to salads and sandwiches. Enjoy the taste of summer with this refreshing Cucumber Salad. Cucumbers are low in calories, high in fibre, high in Vitamin C and K and minerals, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese. Also, cucumbers contain a good amount of water and soluble fibre, making them ideal to promote hydration.

Asparagus is in good supply and of good quality from Victoria this week. Asparagus adds crunch to your meals and is a great option for a tasty side-dish! Asparagus can be eaten raw and adds a slight pea-flavoured taste. Try  these Asparagus and Lemon Ricotta Crepes for a light and tasty spring treat!

Green Beans from Bundaberg are good quality and in abundance this week at your local fruit and veg shop. Green Beans can be added to a stir fry, salad or steam and tossed in some Garlic and olive oil for a simple, yet healthy mid-week meal.

Broccoli and Baby Broccoli are in good supply and well-priced from South East Queensland. Change up the way you prepare your Broccoli this week and try this hearty dish of Marinated Lentils with Baby Broccoli and Feta for a meal that will have you coming back for seconds! Pick up some of this produce and more from your local fruit and veg shop this week!

Globe Artichokes are good quality and in steady supply from Victoria this week. Artichokes are a delicious option for your Springtime meals. Compared in flavour to Asparagus or Brussels Sprouts with a nutty flavour, Globe Artichokes make for a delicious entree or side dish for your next dinner party.

Juicy, sweet Mangoes are in good supply and still of reasonable quality, currently coming from the Northern Territory to your local fruit and veg shop. Mangoes are best enjoyed fresh as a refreshing snack, or sliced and added to a salad like our Chicken Mango & Avocado Salad. No matter how you enjoy them, the whole family will appreciate having some fresh Mangoes this week!

Aussie stone fruit season is beginning, and with it brings a variety of new produce lines! Expect to see Yellow and White Nectarines from Kumbia and Grantham appearing in your local fruit and veg shop this week! Stone fruit are a wonderful sign of the warmer season to come. Why not try White Poached Nectarines with Sweetened Mint Cream and Toasted Hazelnuts for a tasty dessert.

Melons are a delicious snack for the warmer weather! Choose from Honeydew, Watermelon and Rockmelon which are good quality from Far North Queensland this week! We are loving our Melon & Bocconcini Salad, which calls for Rockmelon but can be substituted with your favourite variety of melon!

Berry crops are beginning to move southward through the country but are still of good quality. Choose your favourite from a selection of Blueberries and Raspberries this week.
