  November 3, 2022  adonaldson

Enjoy the taste of Queensland’s warmer weather with a bounty of tropical and summer flavours starting to appear in your local fruit and veg shop this week. There is always something to suit everyone’s taste buds.

Our pick of the week is the ripe, red Tomato.  This week, be spoilt for choice with Cherry, Roma, Grape and Gourmet varieties making their way from Bowen and Bundaberg to your local fruit and veg shop. Delicious and versatile Tomatoes are a great choice for salads or roasts! After a simple side-dish that is refreshing and packs in loads of flavour? Try this recipe for Charred Tomatoes with Yoghurt.

Level-up your salad game this week and pick up some fresh Lockyer Valley-grown Cabbage. Cabbage is a perfect addition to salads when sliced finely and can add colour and crunch to your meals. Why not try this Sweet and Sour Pork with Cabbage Slaw recipe!

Cos and Iceberg Lettuce are back in good supply and are of good quality from Gympie and the Lockyer Valley. Lettuce is one of the most widely used salad vegetables. For a healthy green twist, try this Green Goddess Salad.

Globe Artichoke continue to be a great seasonal option at your local fruit and veg shop this week. Still arriving from our cooler southern state, Victoria, they can come in a variety of sizes and are a delicious option if you haven’t tried them before.

Low in calories and sodium and high in vitamin C, Zucchini is in abundance from Bundaberg and still on the shelves at your local fruit and veg shop. The versatile Zucchini can be enjoyed cooked or raw. Nourish your body with tasty Carmelised Zucchini, Olive, Lentil & Almond Salad.

We are seeing a good supply of perfectly juicy and sweet Mangoes from Bowen in your local fruit and veg shop this week. Mangoes are a summer winner with the kids and are easy to slice up and add to a lunchbox or smoothie!

Limes are in steady supply from North Queensland and are classically used in drinks, as a dressing, garnish or marinade. Sprinkle some zest over fish or a salad for a flavour boost. There is nothing more Aussie than prawns on a barbeque with a lime marinade, enjoy this Grilled Pacific Prawns with Lime Ginger Marinade for a mid-week meal treat.

Stone fruit are synonymous with summer! We are starting to see White and Yellow Peaches, White and Yellow Nectarines and Apricots from Kumbia and Stanthorpe at your local fruit and veg shop. Whip up a delicious treat and make these Syrup Apricots with Toasted Madeira and Orange Cream.

Papaya is a delightful flavour for spring and heading into summer. Pick up some Papaya from Innisfail at your local fruit and veg shop this week, along with some Bananas and create a tasty Papaya & Banana Smoothie!

Sweet, tangy Pineapple are of good quality from Yeppoon. Full of essential vitamin C, Pineapple is a tasty addition to your daily fruit intake. Mix in with your morning cereal or smoothies, or bake into a delicious sweet treat like our classic Pineapple and Passionfruit Upside-Down Cake this weekend!
