Brisbane Produce Report – 6 May

  May 5, 2022  strump

With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to pop into your local fruit and veg shop for fresh produce and flowers just for mum.

Our pick of the week is Bananas from the golden gumboot town of Tully. One of the most consumed fruits worldwide, Bananas are nutrient rich and packed with antioxidants. They’re a universally loved ingredient in breakfast and dessert dishes. Want to treat mum like the queen that she is? Whip up these Fluffy Banana Pancakes with Pecans for her!

Kiwifruit out of Victoria are coming into season, so you can expect to find them in good supply at your local fruit and veg shop. These large berries are packed with flavour and health benefits. Try adding Kiwifruit to your lunchbox to help reach your recommended daily fruit and vegetable intake.

High supply of citrus fruit means that you’re spoiled for choice in this department. Imperial Mandarins from Gayndah and Navel Oranges out of Mundubbera are great morning or afternoon tea snacks for the whole family. We know they’re high in vitamin C, but these fruits have many health benefits. Learn more about what makes Mandarins good for you.

With the Queensland floods having affected some suppliers of leafy veg for several weeks, leafy vegetables are now returning to good supply levels. Stanthorpe-grown CeleryCauliflower and Lettuce will add colour and flavour to your favourite meals. If you’re after a leafy green that will impress, look no further than Fancy Lettuce from Caboolture.

Capsicums out of Bundaberg are in peak supply between March and May, so now’s a great time to stock up on these versatile vegetables. If you’re wanting to add sweetness to your meal, Red Capsicums are best. If you’re after a slightly bitter taste, opt for Green Capsicum. If you have kids that aren’t fond of eating their vegetables, Capsicums make for a great hidden veg. Find some kid-friendly healthy meal inspiration here.

Bundaberg is affectionately referred to as the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, but this week it can be famously known as our fresh produce town of choice! You’ll find Bundaberg-grown ChilliSweet PotatoZucchiniPineapple and Dragon Fruit in stock this week at your local fruit and veg shop.

As we approach winter, roasts and soups are making a comeback! Onions from South Australia are a staple year-round, but a great way to use this veg in cold weather is to make a delicious Baked Onion Soup.

Treat mum like royalty this weekend! Do the shopping at your local fruit and veg shop – the best option for quality fresh produce and great service.
