Brisbane Produce Report – 18 February

  February 17, 2022  adonaldson

As we near the end of summer, some of our favourite fruits are starting to phase out. While some of our summer favourites start to leave, we are saying hello to some great fruit and veg that is coming into season as we enter the autumn months.

Our pick of the week is the locally grown Passionfruit coming out of Bundaberg and Gympie, to keep you feeling fresh! Perfect alone, on top of yoghurt or other sweets, Passionfruit is one of our favourite fruits! They are also perfect additions to drinks for a refreshing tangy flavour, one we are loving at the moment is our Passionfruit Gin & Tonic.

Summery fruits still in good supply are melons such as Watermelon from Bundaberg and Chinchilla and Rockmelon from Victoria and New South Wales, all perfect for throwing together a fresh fruit salad, like this Watermelon, Rockmelon and Goat Cheese Salad!

Stone fruits from Victoria such as White and Yellow Fleshed Nectarines, PlumsPeaches are still in excellent supply and well-priced. With so much on offer, it’s a no-brainer to pick some up in this week’s shop! Perfect alone, as a snack for this kids’ lunchboxes, in a salad, or pastry, there are endless ways of utilising this seasonal produce! For something a little more on the cosy side, try these White Poached Nectarines with Mint Cream and Toasted Hazelnuts!

There are also new season Williams Pears from Victoria and locally grown Pawpaw from Mareeba, both with plentiful stock and well-priced this week. New season Gala Variety Apples are coming from Stanthorpe and Victoria, as well as Nashi Pears from Victoria in store now, a perfect midday snack! Gala Apples are best as snacks or in salads, like this Sweet Potato & Apple Salad!

In vegetables, the highlights this week include Tasmanian-grown fresh Green Beans and Snow Peas from Victoria, they are in good supply and offer great value. Ideal for stir-fries, these gorgeous veggies pair well with chicken, pork, or seafood! Supercharge your meals with Bundaberg Sweet Potatoes that are in abundance right now – think baked fries, sweet potatoes blondies and loaded potatoes.

Other great veggies with plentiful stock and well-priced this week include Truss Tomatoes from New South Wales, South Australian and Victoria and Sweet Corn from Gatton, Bundaberg and Victoria. If you’re feeling adventurous this week, we recommend trying out this tasty recipe Charred Tomatoes with Yoghurt!

Head to your local fruit and veg shop to see this week’s seasonal produce. The best way to shop and cook is to follow the seasons and be sure to ask your local fruit and veg shop if you have any questions about what’s in season.
